Lots of potential wwoofers, past wwoofers, farm owners, and Hawaii lovers have been asking me if they could purchase prints of some of the photos on my blog.
This is pretty awesome and I'm happy to help you out if you'd like a little of my Hawaii love on your wall. You can have any photo you'd like but I suppose it would be fair to say that photos of me holding my muffins are off-limits (unless you can state your case really well.)
All photos will be signed and professionally printed on archival photo paper with archival inks and will be matted in acid-free black matboard with a foamcore backing board. (I'm a freelance artist and I make prints of my art all the time, so you'll be getting high quality everything!)
5x7in print: $25 (in 8x10 mat)
8x10 print: $50 (in 11x14 mat)
11x16in print: $75 (in 16x20in mat) big!
12x18in print: $100 (in 18x24 mat) this is huge!
We can do larger sizes and in-between sizes and whatever you'd like. Just let me know!

Holy Crap! Joel wrote a book!

We've received many questions about WWOOFing through this blog and, while it has been hard to respond promptly since we're in travel mode right now, we are really happy to be of service to all would-be-wwoofers. It seems that this is one of the top places that wwoofer-wannabees check out before starting their search for farms on Hawaii.
We totally understand why. There's nowhere else on this entire magical internet that will tell you the real deal about WWOOFing in Hawaii.

We've got all the organic dirt about all of the places on Maui. We know a bit about the other islands, too.

We're offering this because we don't want anyone else to have to go through what we did! We learned alot about being taken advantage of, lifting heavy stuff, and listening to long, unprovoked lectures about not being masculine enough. BUT! We didn't learn much about organic farming.

Sunset Theater

We will be ending our WWOOF adventure on June 6th.
June 6-19: exploration of Maui, couchsurfing, camping, hiking
June 19: flight to Portland
June 19-28: visiting West Coast friends, exploring California
June 28-July 2: a secret trip we cannot talk about
July 3-5: the long journey home on train

Week 3 in Ulupalakua

We did our monthly shopping trip at Mana Foods, which is completely on the other side of the island. We figured it would make the most sense to try to hitchhike back home across the street from the Stupa of World Peace so that the glorious blessing of the Buddha head would be shining down on us. It worked.
A wild animal almost eats all of our monthly food supply but is frightened by the flash of the camera and scurries away.
Maui Muffins #2!
Muffins: coconut, cocoa powder, flour, sugar, mashed banana
Sauce: mashed papaya, cocoa powder, chopped mystery berries, vegan sprinkles
Joel could be a model for funny Indian shirts.

This is where we do an hour of our 4 hour workday. We carry duck poop water to baby fruit trees.
These are mangoes. A rat keeps munching them, so we've been staking out, trying to catch him/her in the act. Mangoes are precious.

The WWOOFer Refugee Center

Spidermonster likes coffee too!
Usually the spider doesn't bother us, but this is taking it a little too far, Spidermonster.
ASHLEY MAKES CUPCAKES!!! But, we don't have a cupcake pan or an oven that makes sense to us, so these are cast iron skillet muffins.
Cupcake: flour-cocoa-sugar-coconut-banana

Ulupalakua Ultimance

Joel becomes angry at the mongoose who's been eating our bananas when we're not looking. Although we do eat at least 6 bananas a day, we still feel that it's unfair that the mongoose eats 3.
Joel is very successful at this papaya retrieving game.
